Carolina & Tomas, are the proud owners of Finca Cholopata, a farm that was established in 2021 after they relocated from La Paz city to the Caranavi subregion of La Paz. Their primary focus is on cultivating coffee, but they also run a graphic design business called Contento Estudio.
The farm spans approximately six hectares, with four hectares dedicated to coffee production. In addition to coffee, they also grow other crops such as oranges, plantains, and corn. Tomas and Carolina are passionate about producing exceptional microlots of coffee. They have conducted fermentation experiments on the farm to develop unique processing recipes.
They actively engage with the indigenous Andean and Aymara communities in the surrounding area, participating in social events and sharing knowledge with fellow producers. Like their neighbours, they prioritize sustainable production methods that are in harmony with the environment. This includes preserving the surrounding forest, cultivating diverse crops alongside coffee, and creating their own organic fertilizers to maintain nutrient-rich soil.
Tomas emphasizes that the main objective at Finca Cholopata is to conserve the region's fauna and flora while creating a biodynamic farm where they can produce, savour, and sustain themselves through their love for coffee. They aspire to welcome customers to the farm, allowing them to witness their work on the land and establish connections with roasteries or cafes. Continual improvement and optimization of production are also key goals, with the aim of processing coffees for international competitions. Tomas firmly believes that the future of specialty coffee lies not only in its quality but also in conservation efforts. Although challenging, they are confident that with the support of allies who appreciate their product and the beauty of Bolivia.
